I got quite frustrated with insecure Lexi, it was a bit overboard but sure finally improved. Luke has a secret with his firefighting life but, of course, that's in book two and you are left hanging.MY beef is the suthor doesn't bother to tell us, in this synopsis, that it IS a cliff hanger and I just fell its disrespectful not to be up front and honest. So NO, I will not be purchasing the next book.

Hot Mess was a beautiful story about life’s second chances.
Lexi is a single divorced mom who’s hesitant to start dating. Her little girls mean the world to her and she doesn’t want to introduce them to a guy just to have their hearts broken if things don’t work out.
After some persuading Lexi’s friends finally get her to agree to go out with them and have some fun. It turns into a night to remember.
Luke is nothing like Lexi expected. The man is a little mysterious and full of surprises. He has Lexi rethinking who her perfect man might be. What started out as a one night stand is quickly evolving into something more.
Will Lexi’s fears keep her from giving their relationship a real chance?
I really enjoyed Luke and Lexi’s story and can’t wait to find out how it ends.
Don't get me wrong the book was great.. I really enjoyed it.. what always pisses me off are authors who are to insecure to complete one book and let it stand on its on merit. No they have to leave the book as a cliff hanger to force to go get the next book in order to finish what should be one book. Ok Mrs. Goodwin I'll buy the next book so I can complete the story but I'll never buy another one of your books. Is it more important to force someone to read two of your books or to win a die hard fan who will read every book you write.
This was one FABULOUS, FABULOUS book!!! I was completely enthralled with this novel!!! I cannot wait to get started on the next book!!! I am looking forward to finding out what happens next between Lexi and Luke and what life is going to throw their way. I’m anxious to find out what Luke's secret is. You know it has something to do with his life as a firefighter in Chicago. Therefore its going to be painful but intriguing. Hopefully he and Lexi will survive.
Speaking of surviving I am praying that they can survive Cole's manipulative tactics. I literally can’t stand him and I don’t think there is a redeeming quality about him. He is not only horrible to Luke but he is just a horrible person. I have zero plans to read his story. I don’t want to go to much into it but the s*** he pulls to break up Lexi and Luke is Ludicrous. And what’s up with Lexi automatically believing him. I wanted to knock some since into her. I can understand her insecurities but damn she was always believing the worst. Here she has a great guy and comes up with crap to sabotage it in her head. Not to mention believing Cole's lies. I have mixed feelings as to whether or not she deserves Luke at this point.
The scenes between her girls and Luke are heartwarming and swoon worthy. He just melts my heart. Especially being that I am a single mother of two. I don’t believe Lexi realizes just how lucky she is. She needs to get her s***together and see Cole for what he is. I am completely in love with Luke. He’s the total package!!!
This book is undeniably hot, sexy, and just down right good!!! I highly recommend it!!! But going in you should know that it ends in a cliffhanger. But I believe it will be so worth it!!! Read this book!!! It truly is phenomenal!!!
First page and I am in love with this story; sucked me right in and just couldn't stop reading after that.
You will meet Lexi; a single mother of two wonderful girls, Grace and Paige; she works at Black Ink Press as an editor of romance & erotica books. And the tittle indicates, her current situation is a Hot Mess, really; long working hours, doing all she can to give her daughters the best, always putting their needs before hers. Given this, Lexi hasn't have time nor a real desire for a man since her divorce; she's happy dreaming about the perfect man, which is embodied by her boss and friend, Cole, a good looking guy, with a stable job and seems to have his life put together, who else could be perfect than him, right?
Ready to give the dating scene a go once again, Lexi finds herself in a bar and meeting a hot bartender, Luke, and he is perfect for what she's looking for, a night of fun and passion.
Luke, the hot bartender, is a former firefighter that recently moved back from Chicago. He has a past that haunts him, and I am dying to discover what it is (intermission here, this story is not a standalone). Blue mesmerizing eyes, check; a hot body, check; the tattoos, check; the fleeting moments of silent and brooding, check! And he's ready to give Lexi what she is looking for, one night, no strings attached.
But one night is not enough for them; a relationship is in the works, a beautiful bond starts to grow between them, and they are unable to stop it; it all seems too perfect to be true, and given her line of work, Lexi knows that fairy tales does not exists in real life, or do they? Life is full of twists and plot changes, as Lexi and Luke are about to find out.
Five stars from start to the last page; really loved how Goodwin wrote these characters, made them more real, more relatable. Lexi is the kind of woman that you will find yourself identifying with, wether you are a mother or not, just have to read in between the lines; and Luke, what can I say, he is perfect next book boyfriend material.
One-click for sure, and definitely want to find out what is next for Lexi & Luke.
I like the storyline but can't stand wasting my time on half a book. There was absolutely no closure and the next book is out in a few weeks. I'm not likely to remember this story in two weeks - let alone buy the next one. This is not a reflection of the story telling but the fact that I'm a busy mom & when I take time to read I want a complete book.
