Edgy and thought-provoking, Left Out takes aim at the NDP,Saskatchewan’s natural governing party since the 1940s. Outspoken broadcaster and writer John Gormley pulls no punches in an entertaining and informative account of Saskatchewan politics that is both a lament and a challenge he issues to a new generation of voters.
From the hundreds of thousands of people who fled the province to Saskatchewan’s decline in influence, Gormley pins this and more on successive NDP governments, particularly the Calvert NDP of the early 2000s. With a keen political insider’s eye, Gormley analyzes the elections of 2003 and 2007, Saskatchewan’s finances and nearly a dozen political scandals which rocked the province in the early 2000s.
This best-selling book also features an engaging and funny prescription for fixing Saskatchewan’s historic bad attitude and leaves no one unscathed, from powerful union leaders to a business community that often allows its own victimization at the hands of the political left.
Left Out challenges all of us to re-engage in politics for the sake of our Saskatchewan.
The book will appeal especially to political junkies who love the chatter on coffee row, and the whispers in the halls of the Saskatchewan Legislature.

Left Out Saskatchewan NDP the Relentless Pursuit of Mediocrity edition by John Gormley Suzanne Paschall Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
I lived in Saskatchewan from 1974 to 2009 and I would listen to John Gormely's talk-radio show when I drove through Saskatcheawn's rural areas for my job. It was wonderful to hear passionate opinions expressed. When my family moved from Vancouver to Regina, in 1974, we immediately noticed how everyone felt they had to be the same in Saskatchewan. This addiction to 'sameness' permeated our elementary school experience. If someone expressed a different opinion or questioned something, kids would make fun. Individuality didn't seem to be valued. This carried into the work world where the status quo was never questioned and I could see provincial politics interferring even within the ranks of federal government offices. I likened this status quo effect to that of sheep, blindly running along in the same direction, without a clear understanding of why...
John Gormely's Left Out is about SK politics, in particular the negative effects the NDP party had on the province from playing "small" and not encouraging business growth. Gormely begins the book with describing the NDP as Saskatchewan's 'natural governing party', a party that effectively sold a story to Saskatchewanites that it was the "moral" party. And if something is regarded as moral, it is rarely questioned. In often hilarious ways, Gormely goes on to explain how the NDP is not really that moral, and was, in fact, interested in hanging onto business interests for itself, not for the Saskatchewan people. And was in fact clueless about how to grow the province under Calvert, but ... not entirely clueless as to how to run a vicious campaign ...
Gormley occasionally digresses to individuals who've boycotted his radio show, but that's easy to overlook when the bigger picture is so productive. I especially appreciate his commentary at the end of the book on how the NDP needs to save itself. It's unhealthy for any jurisdiction to not have at least two strong parties because the same thing that happened to the NDP could happen to SK Party if there is no strong opposition. But the NDP really needs to figure out what it stands for because right now, it's unclear.
Saskatchewan deserves to be all that it can be, and if it becomes a place where businesses can thrive, I would like to live there again. I absolutely LOVED Gormely's Saskatchewinners phrase, instead of the Saskatchewhiners "must be nice" phrase.
After reading Left Out, I was hungry for more. And I hope there will be a book written about politics under SK Party, because it would be very interesting.
